FRIENDS – Our entire community is saddened by the news of the passing of Professor Edward D. Ohlbaum. Of course whether friend – and he had many – or foe – who knew him to be the most formidable of adversaries — he was known only as Eddie. Our thoughts are with Eddie’s wife Karyn Scher and their son Jake.
Our beloved friend and brother served in so many roles, of which I know only a few: senior trial lawyer with the Defender Association of Philadelphia; founding Board Member of the Pennsylvania Innocence Project; Law Professor and Director of Trial Advocacy and Clinical Legal Education at Temple Law School; and at the Support Center for Child Advocates, as Volunteer Child Advocate, Member of our Board of Directors, and Chair of our Child Policy Committee, and consultant on our most challenging ethics and practice questions. Mentor, teacher, advocate, advisor, coach, author. Warm, energetic, unselfish, brilliant, insightful, encouraging, gracious, personal. These are some of the words that come to mind when we think of our friend.
I don’t think he shared news of his illness with many. Always about the work, about injustice, about his students, especially about his family and his friends — he was so much like this, as it was never about Eddie. We join in our fond memories of him, with such sadness.
