Why a Children's Ombudsperson?
There is simply no place to go for resolution of some problems within the child welfare system. Children and youth agencies, the courts and advocates all have their role, but ultimately there are many system problems affecting children and families that slip through the cracks. As Child Advocates is on the web and otherwise visible in the community, our office receives several calls of complaint and inquiry each week, from all parts of the Commonwealth, from family members, lawyers, citizens and children. "Who can I call?" "No one is responding." "I need help." We have neither the authority nor the capacity to answer these calls in the manner that they deserve.
Everyone benefits - children, families and taxpayers – with the creation of an independent, impartial statewide Children’s Ombudsperson. As part of the public outcry for and heightened commitment to government accountability, I strongly urge you to help create a Children’s Ombudsperson.
Contact your PA Senator and Representative to let them know that you support the creation of a Children’s Ombudsperson. We need your voice!
Very truly yours,
