read ricardo's story

Child Advocates was appointed to represent 2-year-old Ricardo and 1-year-old Tomas in March 2007 after a Child Protective Services Report revealed that their mother had choked Ricardo. When she reported that “voices” told her to do so, the mother was hospitalized and diagnosed with a major post-partum depressive disorder.

our honorees

Join some 700 members of the city’s legal, business and medical communities in honoring this year’s award recipients.

Governor Ed Rendell will be presented the 2010 Judge Lois G. Forer Child Advocacy Award for his extraordinary career of service to children and families. Governor Rendell’s commitment to improving education outcomes and access to health care for young people, and his administration’s leadership for reform in child welfare and juvenile justice - including renewed focus on child safety, the strategic reduction of the numbers of children in foster care, and services to meet the behavioral health needs of court-committed youth - are all historic benchmarks in the children’s rights movement.

The event will also recognize seven Distinguished Advocates for Children: Robert L. Ebby from Hangley Aronchick Segal & Pudlin; Leslie M. Gomez from the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office; Sherri Krensel from Workplace Environments 2000; Lisa Lewis from Blank Rome, LLP; Nicole M. Reimann from Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP; Shelly D. Yanoff from Public Citizens for Children and Youth; and Thomas C. Zipfel from Worth & Company, Inc.

safaris, villas, resortsImagine...

...ten days in a stunning 14th century castle, at the foothills of the French and Swiss Alps in Piedmont.

...five days on safari in an exclusive game reserve in Namibia, observing elephants, cheetahs, lions and rhinos.

...a Wicked New York City experience, with house seats and a producer’s backstage tour.

...relaxing in a picturesque Vermont resort.

...throwing the first pitch at a Phillies game.

Most importantly, imagine that every penny you spend on these life-changing experiences will help change the lives of Philadelphia’s neglected, abused, and underserved children.

These are among the more than 300 restaurant, sports and entertainment packages being auctioned at our 24th (and largest ever) silent auction – thanks to the generous donations of our supporters. Don’t miss your chance at one of these incredible items.

where your support goes
The Annual Benefit Reception supports our Child Protection Program, for children victimized by physical and sexual abuse and severe neglect. Kids like Jessica, a 10-month old who, in August 2005, arrived at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children with evidence of blunt trauma to her abdomen, four fractured limbs and a dislocated right femur - all a result of her mother's abuse.

Support Center for Child Advocates was appointed to represent Jessica and was instrumental in highlighting her case to law enforcement authorities, in ensuring that her medical records were reviewed by child abuse experts, and in requesting an expert psychiatric evaluation to determine whether Jessica could ever be safely returned home to her mother. As a result of these interventions, Child Advocates helped find Jessica physical therapies, a specialized preschool, and a loving family that adopted her and with whom she now happily lives. Jessica's full story, and others like hers, can be read on our website, advokid.org.

All of the funds raised this night will be invested in direct services in the current fiscal year.
